Summary:
Under close supervision or general direction, applies technical skills to competently provide a full range of sample test analyses and laboratory services.
Responsibilities:
- Trains in and performs a full range of simple-to-complex sample testing and laboratory services.
- Trains in and performs patient specimen testing.
- Ensures sample suitability.
- Evaluates, judges and interprets test results and ensures accuracy.
- Trains and performs in accepting and processing samples for on-site testing or forwards to contracted reference laboratories.
- Identifies and resolves inconsistencies in patient results.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Ensures quality control and functionality of instruments. Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions.
- Provides customer service for questions directed at the laboratory.
- Answers questions from patient providers regarding test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques.
- Participates in continuing education programs. Monitors, maintains, orders and stocks laboratory supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Assesses competencies of MLTs and MLSs and provides specialized expertise in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology and infectious disease safety.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
- (Level III) Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
- (Level I/II) One (1) year of clinical laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
- ASCP: (Level I: Within 6 months of hire); (Level II/III: Required)
