Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Pathologists' Assistant - Per Diem - Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology specimens as well as preparation of tissue for numerous pathological tests including frozen section diagnosis, histology, flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry staining .
Job Responsibilities:
Trained to recognize potential hazards in the workplace and proper procedures for handling hazardous substances. Those working in the Histology Department are trained in additional procedures for disposal of hazardous waste.
Performs gross description and complete dissection of all surgical specimens and dictation of data including large cancer cases.
Evaluates normal and abnormal tissues for appropriate tissue sampling including large cancer cases.
Selection and submission of tissue sections for microscopic analysis. This includes cutting bone specimen using bone saw.
Preparation of frozen sections for pathologists interpretation and assist to perform ancillary studies, e.g. culture and flow cytometry.
Perform postmortem examinations and descriptions which include: external exams; in situ organ inspection; evisceration; dissection and dictation or recording data such as organ weights, presence of body fluids, etc., and gross anatomic findings
Photographs surgical specimens as assigned and maintains the photography equipment in good working order.
Additional duties may include checking for and resolving inappropriate specimens. Numbers surgical and cassettes, ensures that the surgical cutting area is clean and in good working order, and maintains a sufficient inventory of all necessary supplies.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Assesses patients ability to communicate in English and assists in the provision of an interpreter, as needed.
Incorporates patients cultural background and values in method of communication and service provision.
Incorporates patients cultural background and values to involve family members as needed or assess the use of alternative medicine
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a B.A. from a NAACLS accredited Pathology Assistant training program . Related experience including surgical pathology, gross dissection of surgical specimens and frozen sections preferred Licensed by NYS Department of Education as a Clinical Laboratory Technician, Technologist or a Certified Histological Technician.

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
