Position Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist I performs and interprets standard, complex and specialized laboratory tests. The MLS I has an understanding of the underlying scientific principles of laboratory testing as well as the technical, procedural, and problem-solving aspects. The MLS I correlates abnormal laboratory data with pathologic states, determines validity of test results and need for additional investigation. The MLS I has an understanding of quality control programs, and evaluates computer-generated data and troubleshoots problems. The MLS I is able to participate in the introduction, investigation and implementation of new procedures and in the evaluation of new instruments. The MLS I understands and enforces regulatory requirements and safety regulations. This position receives supervision of completed work activities from the supervisor. The MLS I may perform regulatory/compliance duties that require high level of technical knowledge and skills under supervision of certified personnel. This position is temporary and shall be occupied for 18 months maximum. To remain employed by PC past the initial 18 months, the incumbent shall have obtained a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLS) ASCP Certification or equivalent as determined by laboratory leadership. Once obtained, the incumbent will be moved to the MLS II role.
Education
- Graduate of a Clinical Laboratory Science program from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and work experience. (Required)
Experience
- Clinical laboratory experience. (Preferred)
