The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana! Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests a year. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.

• Primary Hours: M-F Days
• Required to provide limited weekend or evening coverage as needed
• Required to take on-call

LOCATION: Primary location is West Hospital, Avon. However, incumbent will be required to work at all locations including Saxony-Fishers, North Hospital, and various locations surrounding the I-465 beltway.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist for Point of Care exists to oversee laboratory testing on patient specimens performed at the point of care and to provide information for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of diseases. Maintains records of performance and utilizes independent judgment to oversee acceptable test results within quality control standards. May act as a key resource person for team members inside and outside of the department. Instructs team members on laboratory point of care procedures and techniques to ensure accurate lab results. Plans, organizes, and directs the daily point of care activities so all applicable regulations are met. This position assumes responsibility for quality control procedures, instrument function checks, inventory, quality assurance, and any maintenance procedures in assigned areas. Primarily responsible for non laboratory team member training and competency in point of care testing. Performs all tasks according to standard operating procedures. May work on the development and modification of procedures and assumes additional responsibilities as outlined by management or the laboratory director.

• Requires Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences.
• Requires one (1) year of relevant experience.
• Requires certification or eligibility for board certification by ASCP; AMT; NCA or equivalent certification.
• Certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment.
• Failure to achieve would result in downgrade to MT-1 position until certification is achieved or loss of employment, dependent on business need.
• Requires knowledge of various complex and lengthy laboratory techniques and procedures.
• Requires knowledge of specialized testing equipment and routine maintenance procedures.
• Requires ability to maintain quality control and other records.
• Requires ability to use computer to enter and retrieve test results.
• Requires analytical skills to make quantitative and qualitative observations.
• Requires ability to work independently; handle constant interruptions and concurrent tasks.
• Requires knowledge of all laboratory safety regulations and protocols.
