Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications:
The Special Chemistry Supervisor works closely with the Director toward oversight of the daily operation of the laboratory with an emphasis on quality assurance, operations, personnel assignments, leadership and interpretive skills to provided quality laboratory results.

Days: Monday - Friday (some weekends)

In this role you will:
- Ensure all payroll activities are in compliance with HR policy
- Ensure appropriate staffing to meet workload. Re-assign staff and duties based on needs at times
- Assist with appropriate test methods selection
- Assist and monitor inventory by working with vendor
- Responsible for or assurance of training aw identified for new instrumentation, new procedure or remediation due to multiple mistakes or issues with a given procedure
- Assist with teaching duties when AEL partners with local colleges and universities
- Assist pathologists with inquiries and problem solving
- Within the assigned area, assists with future and current offerings to assist with procedures, test validation, QC and QA programs and other regulatory items such as proficiency tests necessary to maintain compliance.
- Update and maintain CAP checklist exhibit binder(s) and assures compliance with CMS, State of Tennessee and CAP requirements
- Coordinates with leadership (including Senior Technologists and other Supervisors) to organize services provided, oversee operations and schedule personnel for designated areas
- Works closely with other supervisors to develop staff to meet new or existing goals
- Works on interdisciplinary teams and projects to further the overall goals of the organization
- Performs all assays according to the laboratory's protocols and procedures, establishes validity test results, accurately transcribes, reviews and reports tests results, performs all necessary computer functions in order to manage tests data, verifies test procedures and establishes the laboratory's performance criteria
- Responsible for conducting routine group and individual meetings to provide feedback, get ideas and work collaboratively for improvements.
- Analyzes laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results
- Ensures that patient's results are not reported until all corrective action has been taken and test systems are functioning properly
- Performs routine maintenance, calibration and standardization on all instruments within an established time frame
- Keeps and/or facilities accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance performance and quality control checks. Recognizes any malfunction of instruments and takes immediate corrective action to restore proper operation of instruments.
- Notifies leadership when test results will be delayed and further works to provide information to clients when appropriate
- Follows all safety policies including but not limited to general safety, hazardous communication, Chemical Hygiene Plan and Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Adheres to professional ethical standards. Maintains verifiable records according to published retention policies
- Communicates via email or verbally in a professional and timely manner. Items that may require exchange include problematic specimens, special client request, complaints or comments that require follow-up, interface anomalies or equipment failure
- Must provide flexibility of work hours including weekends and holidays
- As necessary accepts other assignments that may include coordination with other leadership or serving as their back-up as situations arise
All you need is:
Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent and successfully passed an MT or MLS certification
Knowledge of laboratory procedures
4 years of laboratory experience
Previous supervisory experience preferred
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required.
Certification by ASCP or equivalent and possesses a supervisor's license with the State of Tennessee
