Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Scientist 1 (MLS 1) is responsible for performing patient analytic laboratory testing, quality control, data analysis, results reporting, instrument maintenance, and technical problem resolution. This is a technical position. Typical work situations require performing multiple tests with exacting accuracy and rapid turnaround time. MLS performs manual and automated procedures, operate instruments that are computer interfaced and use networked computer information systems. This position requires a service-committed individual, who is detail oriented and can perform complex data analysis, exercise sound, independent judgment and demonstrate critical thinking skills. The MLS may assume some administrative responsibilities and act as a resource for other laboratory personnel as well as for external customers such as physicians, patient care staff and outside organizations and laboratories.

• Determine additional testing/review when unexpected abnormalities detected

• Reagent Preparation

• Issue Blood for Emergency Transfusion

• High-Complexity Testing

• Works with MLS-2 and/or MLS-3 oversight

• Train New MLS-1 or MLA

MLS-1 (Entry Level): Meets one of the following criteria:

• Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or a Biological Science (meeting CLIA requirements for high complexity testing)

• Associates Degree and Current Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (or scheduled certification to be completed within 90 days of employment)

• Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology with no current certification

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $34.12 - $49.10 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicants years of experience align.
