Overview

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Stamatatos Lab is part of the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Dr. Stamatatos's Lab investigates B cell immunity generated by viruses and vaccines. We are particularly interested in eliciting protective antibodies against HIV-1 through vaccination. Our work includes the design and pre-clinical and clinical evaluation of novel immunogens.

We are recruiting a Research Technician II-III to join our vaccine efforts. The position is full-time, with excellent benefits. Applications should include a CV and the names of three references. Candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in the sciences are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Research Technician II:

  • Perform immunochemical assays, such as ELISA, Biolayer Interferometry (BLI), Western Blotting and FLOW Cytometry
  • Perform diverse molecular assays
  • Cell culturing
  • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Participate in the daily operation of the laboratory

Research Technician III:

Performs the duties of the Research Technician II plus:

  • May lead or supervise other laboratory personnel and be responsible for the daily operation of the laboratory.
  • Collaborate with Principal Investigator and assist in designing experiments; examine proposals to determine projects and methodologies best suited to research objectives and the overall goals of the laboratory.
  • Summarize and write for publication or presentation the results of research projects, often as co-author or author. Edit and write reports of research.
  • Consult with the Principal Investigator and others in the scientific community on problems and related projects.
  • Determine the most suitable methods to be used in research; determine appropriate experimental controls.
  • Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.

Qualifications

Research Technician II:

  • Intermediate-level position requiring a BA/BS and 2+ years' experience working in a laboratory. Independent research experience outside of laboratory course work is required.
  • Expertise in diverse immunochemical assays and molecular techniques is required.Motivation, adaptability, and ability to be a strong team player are essential.
  • The candidate must be someone with great attention to details, well-organized, self-motivated, and able to efficiently manage time and experiments.

Research Technician III:

  • Senior level position requiring extensive experience in a laboratory.
  • Master's degree in a related scientific field with preference for biology, immunology or similar areas of focus.

Research Technician II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $25.71 to $36.60 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Research Technician III: The hourly pay range for this position is from $32.57 to $47.71 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.

This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
