The Stanford Department of Pathology seeks an outstanding MD, PhD, or MD/PhD with expertise in histocompatibility and immunogenetics, for appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the University Medical Line or Clinician Educator Line. MDs must be board certified or eligible for certification in clinical pathology, anatomic & clinical pathology, or another related field; have a California medical license; and be certified or eligible for certification by ACHI as HLA Laboratory Director. PhDs must be licensed or eligible for licensure by the State of California as a Histocompatibility Laboratory Director and be Board certified or eligible for certification by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI). Candidates currently in a qualified Director-In-Training program are eligible to apply.

The Histocompatibility and Immunogentics Laboratory (HLA Lab) includes a molecular laboratory and a serology laboratory and offers a full range of clinical testing to support hematopoietic stem cell and solid organ transplantation, transfusion medicine (blood product testing), and HLA-related disease association/pharmacogenetics analysis. The Laboratory has a team of 50+ professionals supporting about 750 transplants per year. The laboratory serves Stanford Health Care, Stanford Children's Health and other transplant centers and hospitals in the Bay Area and beyond. As part of Stanford Blood Center, the HLA Lab is accredited by ASHI, certified by CLIA, and licensed by the State of California for high-complexity testing.

The successful candidate will share responsibilities with the Director and co-Director of the Laboratory for direction and oversight of the clinical laboratory. Service responsibilities include reviewing and reporting clinical cases; clinical consultation; on-call support; methods development; all aspects of safety, quality assurance, quality control; compliance with applicable accrediting agencies as well as state and federal regulations; and teaching, including training of clinical residents and fellows.

The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.

The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Academic rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Successful candidates will join the faculty in the Department of Pathology, which currently includes a Nobel laureate, multiple members of the National Academies, and many other investigators with national and international distinctions. In conjunction with its outstanding research program, the Department of Pathology is responsible annually for over 16 million laboratory tests and 80,000 anatomic pathology specimens, and educates outstanding graduate students, residents and fellows.

The expected based pay range for this position is:

Assistant Professor: $244,000 - $256,000

Associate Professor: $290,000 - $302,000

Professor: $348,000 - $360,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It may not include all components of faculty compensation or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
