Description

The Department of Medicine is seeking an experienced Staff Research Associate III to join our team. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in various areas, including molecular cloning, the utilization of mouse models for physiological experiments, and advanced microscopy techniques. A minimum of three years of hands-on experience in electron microscopy is highly desirable.

In this role, your responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks such as sample preparation for electron microscopy, the creation of blocks suitable for sectioning using Glass and Diatome Diamond Knife, and the formulation of fixatives for cell culture and mouse tissue specimens. You must exhibit proficiency in optimizing electron microscopy protocols for standard transmission electron microscopy, dual-axis electron tomography, and immunogold electron microscopy. Additionally, your proficiency should extend to the realm of cell culture, encompassing mammalian cells and insect cells, including cell transfections and the establishment of stable cell lines. Your skillset should also include expertise in PCR and quantitative PCR, as well as the ability to fine-tune electron microscopy protocols. Ideally, we seek candidates with a minimum of five years of foundational experience in the field of biomedical research.

Annual Salary range: $64,498-$103,732

Qualifications

Required: • Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in the Biological Sciences • Expertise with confocal microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, dual axis electron tomography, immunogold electron microscopy • Must be experienced in using mouse models for physiologic experiments. Mouse handling and sacrifice. Mouse perfusion and tissue harvest. • Demonstrated skills in PC computers, MS word, Excel, and PowerPoint internet, Photoshop, Illustrator • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends • Experience with animal dissection and perfusion • Ability to prepare block faces for sectioning using a glass and diamond knife. • Experience with cloning and basic molecular biology techniques (westerns, immunofluorescence, and transfections). • Experience in preparing samples for EM (must handle hazardous chemicals such as osmium tetroxide, uranyl acetate safely) • Expertise with electron microscopy, transmission and scanning
