Job Description
The Manager, Phlebotomy Services is responsible for overseeing and managing the effectiveness of the patient and provider experience, including managing both permanent and float-pool staff across multiple locations. Organizes plans and directs operational processes, staff scheduling, workflow, human resource issues, staff development, and monitors resources for lab support staff including specimen registration, test ordering, collection, labeling, receipt, processing, and delivery of specimens to testing location.

Principal Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing and/or leading a formal phlebotomy education program that includes development of competent and compassionate professionals capable of providing high quality services to patients, families, and communities.
- Proactively recommend and develop learning initiatives that are effective and aligned to strategic initiatives and goals.
- Coordinates pre-boarding and on-boarding efforts for new employees including submitting new hire requests, coordination of start dates, creating orientation schedules and actively communicating with new employees.
- Oversee and organizes plans and directs operational processes, staff scheduling, workflow, employee relation issues and staff development.
- Provide various scheduling analyses to ensure optimal schedules and provide staff recommendations for both permanent and float-pool staffing.
- Collaborates with interdepartmental groups for training and on-boarding purposes.
- Responsible for coaching, supervision, and development of staff.
- Coordinate's training activities with all necessary parties, assures compliance with departmental policies and operations and completion of training itinerary.
- Applies principles of trust, honesty, respect, integrity, and commitment, to develop and maximize the talent of the team.
- Acts as a mentor/coach with open and transparent communication.
- Help ensure adequate staffing levels to support operational needs.
- Create a culture of continuous feedback within your team to track progress and challenges.
- Carries out duties by adhering to the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct, acts in the best interest of Springfield Clinic.
- Knowledge of heath care systems and demonstrates ability to interact, relate to, work with, and support the activities of a growing, diverse organization.
- Responsible for policy development and implementation, regulatory compliance and quality assurance.
- Provides excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
- Financial and budgetary responsibility for operations and FTEs.
- Establishes benchmarks and holds staff accountable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field of study (preferred) or
- Associate's degree with 3-5 years of Clinical Phlebotomy Experience and 3 years leadership experience in a lab setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated understanding of specific regulatory requirements for clinical laboratory operations.
- Working knowledge of FDA, CLIA, COLA and CAP.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and record-keeping skills.
Working Environment
- Rare travel is required to adequately perform job duties.
- Work is performed in both office and clinical environments including computer and phone use.
- Requires walking and standing activities to assist staff in clinical areas, as well as have the ability to lift or exert force up to 25 pounds.
- Comfortable with a fast paced, high intensity environment.
