Responsibilities
Directs and evaluates the technical and operational activities of the Toxicology Laboratory and serves as primary or alternate Responsible Person as defined by National Lab Certification Program (NLCP) in alignment with the mission, values, and objectives of the department and organization.
Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, training, and evaluation of staff. Assesses technical and professional education needs of the staff and develops or provides educational resources to meet those needs. Assigns workloads and monitors quantity and quality of work. Determines and/or manages business priorities and plans. Develops and implements policies and procedures to insure efficient and effective delivery of health services. Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of services. Provides support to sales and client services staff. Develops and monitors the department's operating and capital budgets. Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines. Works collaboratively to budget for and introduce technology appropriately. Demonstrates knowledge of applicable statutory, regulatory, and administrative requirements relative to departmental operations/accreditation and ensures departmental compliance.
Qualifications
Education:
A Doctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution. Management training preferred.
Experience:
Six years of experience and special training relevant to areas of responsibility.
Skills:
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge and ability to successfully guide the selection of equipment, technology, and test validation.
Ability to motivate staff, communicate effectively, manage the appropriate technology, and strategically plan for organizational change.
Organizational skills to function independently and to work closely with others using a team approach.
Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement tools and techniques to apply towards improving customer satisfaction and service quality.
Ability to handle multiple demands and to respond rapidly to changing priorities.
Knowledge of current and future developments and trends in healthcare and areas of defined accountability.
