SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Direct and supervise the overall operation, administration, and technical aspects of the In Vitro Fertilization Lab and Andrology Lab. Engage in educational and research endeavors within the department and institution by establishing and maintaining a curriculum in human fertilization and embryology to residents, fellows and medical students. Maintain all regulatory protocols.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directing and supervising all activities in the embryology and andrology labs.
Detailed knowledge of and able to perform ART and andrology procedures.
Engage in educational endeavors within the department and institution by establishing and maintaining a curriculum in human fertilization and embryology to residents, fellows and medical students as well as engaging in the department Grand Rounds series.
Maintain all the regulatory protocols and procedures for the lab, as well as ensure that the Lab maintains its accreditation.
Responsible for successful site visits by the Department of Health, the Joint Commission, the Food and Drug Administration, and any other regulatory body. Point contact for any and all site visits as well as training the other lab staff on how to conduct an unannounced site visit in their absence.
Explore research collaborations as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator.
Mentor both medical students and OBGYN residents in their required research projects.
Ensure the physical plant (space, facilities, and equipment) and the environmental condition of the laboratory are appropriate and safe.
Employ, train, and supervise a sufficient number of qualified laboratory personnel to perform ART and Andrology procedures as well as quality laboratory procedures. And ensure that all personnel received appropriate training for the ART laboratory procedures to be performed, obtain the required number of annual continuing education hours, and demonstrate continued competence for the ART laboratory procedures performed.
Record and report procedural outcomes to the patient chart and SART.
Coordinate donor oocyte program.
Purchasing supplies and equipment and ensuring maintenance is conducted on all equipment.
Responsible for formulating laboratory policies and protocols.
Perform quality control experiments.
Chair weekly lab meeting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned doctorate degree (PhD) from an accredited institution in a chemical, physical, or biological science as the major subject.
Must hold a High-Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD) or Embryology Laboratory Director (ELD) certification or its equivalent from the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB).
Two years of documented pertinent experience in a program performing IVF-related procedures.
A period of training of at least 6 months (may be con-current with documented experience) and have completed at least 60 ART procedures under supervision.
Must have excellent skills in the following areas: oral and written communication, word processing, decision making, troubleshooting, supervisory and organizational.
Must have high complexity technical skills.
