Expected Starting Salary: 18.83 - 22.95 SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: To conduct independent and directed scientific studies and research in support of Timothy Chlon's research. The Chlon lab studies how inherited mutations in certain genes cause predisposition to blood cancers. Inherited mutations in genes involved in DNA repair, protein synthesis and telomere maintenance commonly cause genetic disorders where one facet is high susceptibility to blood cancers.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform experiments and record data
Follow research protocol. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work and experiments. Analyze data; perform statistical and graphical analysis of data. Design and execute daily laboratory experiments in coordination with senior laboratory personnel. Reproduces and evaluates techniques and results for accuracy. Apply standard protocols to specific experiments, research and improve current methods, and evaluate innovative techniques. Assists in training students and new/junior laboratory personnel in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
Lab Administration
Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment. Reproduces and evaluates techniques and results for accuracy. Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment. Maintain cell cultures. Operate standard laboratory equipment. Use and maintains laboratory equipment appropriately. Responds to obviously erroneous results or problems with equipment. Assists in daily operations of the laboratory including answering phone, maintaining lab supplies, organization, and cleanliness.. Provides appropriate safety monitoring checks as assigned (radiation safety, biosafety, etc.).
Serve as a Resource Demonstrate competence in specific knowledge, skills and behaviors. Effectively communicate with team members and contribute to their growth by sharing knowledge, experience, and skills. Stay abreast of changes in key systems. Serve as a resource to the department in specific area(s).

Maintain/manage strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders. Respond to requests quickly and effectively. Identify and understand customer needs and expectations and meets them. Communicate any relevant information to clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required for RAII:
High school diploma or equivalent
2 years of work experience in a related job discipline. or equivalent combination of education and experience
May require an Associate degree, vocational training, apprenticeships or equivalent
Required for RAIII:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
1 year of work experience in a related job discipline OR Master's degree in a related field
Unique Skills:
The primary responsibility of this individual will be to conduct laboratory experiments, including the culture of mammalian cells, the isolation of protein and nucleic acids from the cells, and completing downstream analyses such as western blotting, quantitative PCR assays, flow cytometry, and other molecular biology analyses.
