Bone Marrow Trasnplant Research Faculty Opportunity ~ Co-Director Diagnostic Immunology Lab

PURPOSE OF POSITION: To conduct research both independently and collaboratively. To participate in teaching, training, scholarly activities and/or service/administration. Responsible for initiating, soliciting, and coordinating well-designed research projects that have potential for external funding. May participate in activities to plan, direct, implement, coordinate and improve services and technical operations within the research activities of the organization. To work with Scientific Directors and colleagues to maximize the function of the organization's scientists and clinician-scientists. To provide, communicate and implement strategic, operational and programmatic plans and policies to achieve the mission, vision and values of Cincinnati Children's.

A Co-Director will help increase the margin of the DIL. The DIL is the Diagnostic Immunology Lab, which generated CBDI's highest margin from our clinical lab operations (65% of total CBDI Clinical Lab activity). In addition to running existing lab test the DIL is also developing new diagnostic immunology tests and is a highly functional Research and Development Programmatic laboratory.

Analytical ability required to evaluate data, and make judgments with regard to medical/surgical, and clinical research material.

Knowledge of research methodology, practice specialty, growth and development, family centered care, pathophysiology and/or pharmacology.

Professionalism

Organizational ability to work effectively within a highly matrixed and complex medical center. Possesses expert knowledge and experience of medical specialty.

Qualifications

EDUCATION\WORK EXPERIENCE:

Required for Associate Professor Level:
  • PhD degree in a related scientific or research field
  • Five years related experience in research field research and/or Lab experience AND assisting with the preparation of data for presentation at scientific meetings
  • Associate Professor appointment or eligibility required

Required for Professor Level:
  • M.D. degree from an accredited school of medicine, or PhD.
  • Medical doctors must have an active State of Ohio Medical Board license and board certification
  • Extensive experience in area of specialization include working in an interdisciplinary setting, medical clinic facilities involving a culturally diverse population, university teaching, research, grantsmanship, and publications
  • Ten years of experience in a leadership capacity
  • May require subspecialty training in the specific clinical area

Preferred:
  • Prior experience in a complex academic medical setting.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Research, Teaching and/or Training: Conduct research both independently and collaboratively that is often dependent upon or associated with other ongoing research projects, or is service related. Ensure that all research functions operate at the highest level of quality, while maintaining fiscal soundness. Participate in collaborative research projects through interactions with researchers as well as individuals from other divisions/departments. Participate in mentoring graduate students, post-doctoral and research fellows, residents, and students to be involved in functions related to the research mission. Contributes to research and teaching including: serving as a teacher, role model and mentor internally; participate in the development and direction of research and/or educational program at the division, department or system level. Complete evaluations for students, residents and peers. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature and seminars. Enhance professional knowledge by attending seminars and professional meetings. Implement knowledge into research.

2. Service and/or Administration: Participates in program development for service and/or administration as evidenced by one of the following: contributes to the development of research or educational programs; or participates in the administration of a research program area; or provide input on a specific program development; or participation in performance improvement programs; participates in local or regional research/scientific affairs through membership in societies or specialty governing boards. May take a role in the development of departmental policies, procedures and standards. Promote interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships and encourage team concepts. Assist in the development and implementation of long and short term goals and objectives and ensures that they are appropriate to the Division. Complete evaluations for students, residents and peers. Coordinate, evaluate and manage annual fiscal operating and equipment budgets. Conduct fiscal analysis and monitor fiscal utilization of scope of services.

3. Scholarly Activity: Participates in scholarly activities. Responsible for initiating, soliciting, and coordinating new well-designed research projects that have potential for external funding. Present experimental results at scientific meetings. Applies advanced training in research methods to design and conduct clinical research on various areas of clinical specialty. Collaborate and write major grant proposals that will result in substantial extramural support. Seek and receive sustained and substantial support from local, regional and/or national sources such as the NIH and NSF either as principal investigator or as a co-investigator. Participate in collaborative research projects through interactions with researchers as well as individuals from other divisions/departments. Publish results of your research via independent and collaborative writings. Propose research and manage the development, implementation and assessment of long and short term goals and objectives. Maintain Quality Control programs; ensure that Quality Control Checks are conducted and records are maintained on each procedure. Define and review performance criteria for quality control, proficiency testing and reporting of test results. Assure that corrective action is taken and documented on all unaccepted control and proficiency testing results
