The role you’ll contribute:
The Lead Histotechnologist performs various anatomical pathology procedures in assigned areas as licensed. Under general supervision, is responsible for managing assigned, selected aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, which may include workflow, quality control process, performance improvement activities, training of new employees, advanced problem solving for customers and coworkers, department equipment or computer maintenance and upgrades, writing/reviewing procedures, or other tasks as assigned. Assists department leadership in daily operations as duties are assigned.

Monitors tissue specimens for microscopic examinations
Performs photographic procedures and diagnostic/analytic specimen testing
Interprets, documents, and reports results
Performs quality control testing, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting practices
Ensures the analytic accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in test methods
Participates and assists in laboratory techniques and methods, as instructed
Performs, assigns, and oversees as necessary pre and post analytical activities related to anatomic pathology tests assigned including specimen collection and processing, Quality Control, equipment maintenance, inventory control, Quality Assurance and proficiency testing procedures.
Performs, and may assign, analytical activities and troubleshooting related to specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, cryotomy, routine and special histologic staining, frozen sectioning, coverslipping and handling of irreplaceable tissue, surgical and body fluid specimens. Continually maintains workspaces in a neat, organized, and properly supplied manner.
Supports cross departmental partnerships and communication amongst Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants, hospital staff and clients taking immediate steps to correct, follow through and report any mistakes or errors to laboratory leadership including resolution to customer service issues within guidelines.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Two years of technical experience
Associates' degree in a related field or equivalent
PREFERRED:
Five years of technical experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field, or combination of Associate' degree and related experience
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
In licensure states, must hold licensure as a Histotechnologist for the department or location assignment as applicable to the state -OR -
In non-licensure states, must hold a national certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent as a Histotechnologist unless grandfathered per state requirement
