Job Summary

$5,000.00 Sign On to Qualified Applicants! Phlebotomist I will be trained to perform venipunctures and skin punctures on all age groups, from neonates through adults. Phlebotomist I will obtain blood specimens, process specimens for analysis, utilize the appropriate computer systems to register patients, facilitate billing, and perform overall specimen accessioning and processing. Phlebotomist I will have interpersonal communication ability to explain the blood drawing process and to show a comforting attitude toward patients.

Job Duties

• Performs venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
• Knowledge of adequate and correct collection requirements.
• Performs accessioning procedures appropriately and accurately to ensure positive identification of the specimens Exhibits accuracy in specimen identification, labeling, accessioning, processing, and patient billing.
• Demonstrates basic problem solving skills.
• Recognizes and resolves basic discrepancies as appropriate.
• Escalates more advances problems and discrepancies to appropriate Phlebotomist III, Analytical Specialist or Supervisor and Team Leader.
• Provides for timely transport of the specimen to the appropriate specimen processing or analyzing location.
• Accurately processes specimens for analysis according to prescribed procedure and provides for timely transport of the specimen to the appropriate specimen processing or analyzing location.
• Evaluates specimen suitability and acceptability.
• Resolves discrepancies as appropriate.
• Initiates recollection process as appropriate.
• Accurately processes specimens for analysis according to prescribed procedure.
• Knows and abides by the Geisinger and related policies and procedures including compliance policies.
• Provides phlebotomy coverage as trained and required to Geisinger Community Practice offices, skilled nursing facilities, or performs in-home phlebotomy for homebound patients.
• Successful completion of initial and subsequent competency exams required.
