Two postdoctoral associate positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Fikri Avci for NIH-supportedprojects. Avci Lab is moving to Emory University School of Medicine in July 2022 as a member of the Department of Biochemistry and Emory Vaccine Center. Avci Lab is an interdisciplinary research group with an objective to explore the treatment of and protection from infectious diseases and cancer by understanding key molecular and cellular interactions between the components of the immune system and carbohydrate antigens associated with microbes or cancers. The projects will focus on, but not be limited to, the molecular and cellular basis for activation of immune responses by bacterial, viral, or cancer-associated carbohydrate antigens. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn and apply immunological and biochemical tools to study key mechanisms by which carbohydrate antigens induce immune responses. Based on the mechanisms discovered, we will design and develop knowledge-based, new-generation vaccines or therapeutics and test their protection by in vivo disease models. Specific projects include the use of humanized mouse models and translational studies involving human subjects.Emory University offers a highly collaborative, top-notch training and research environment in biomedical sciences.
