Job Summary:
$10,000.00 Signing Bonus & Relocation Stipend signing incentives, Employee Referral Bonus Program

The Histotech 2 prepares tissue specimens for microscopic examinations and handles the more specialized histo and immunocyto-chemistry testing within the Dept of Anatomic Pathology under occasional guidance; maintains adequate quality control data. The Histotech 2 processes specimens for molecular testing, troubleshoots processes and follows up as needed, and is responsible for high volume workload and stat requests.

Unit Summary

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has been rated the #1 Hospital in Nashville and the state of Tennessee by the US News & World Report. VUMC's Diagnostic Laboratories are undergoing an exciting time of change, including a planned expansion to a new state-of-the-art 110,000 sq ft laboratory. This, along with an established Professional Advancement Ladder (PAL), provides additional opportunities for growth within our system. VUMC is an academic medicine environment, providing team members frequent interaction with clinical teams and exposure to complex and novel infectious cases.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completes daily workload as assigned to include embedding, cutting, and staining tissue specimens.
  • Performs and documents routine maintenance; maintains departmental records as assigned.
  • Maintains department supplies at acceptable levels.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES:
DIAGNOSTIC TESTING - (NOVICE): Demonstrates proficiency of diagnostic testing in practical applications. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering results.

EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE - (NOVICE):- Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to maintain equipment, products, or systems in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Assures that parts inventory is sufficient.

QUALITY ASSURANCE - (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS):- Understands the goal of increasing organizational productivity and individual performance by making the products and services within your work assignments more efficient and more effective. Demonstrates quality management practices on the job which result in superior products and services delivered.

MENTORING & COACHING - (NOVICE):- Constructively trains and mentors others by providing positive direction and feedback. Has provided constructive suggestions to improve a situation. Knows how to remove roadblocks to success and avoids judgments at all times. Makes a concerted effort to pass on experiences and job information that can be learned easily.
