The Histotech 2 prepares tissue specimens for microscopic examinations and handles the more specialized histo and immunocyto-chemistry testing within the Dept of Anatomic Pathology under occasional guidance; maintains adequate quality control data. The Histotech 2 processes specimens for molecular testing, troubleshoots processes and follows up as needed, and is responsible for high volume workload and stat requests.

VUMC's Diagnostic Laboratories are undergoing an exciting time of change, including a planned expansion to a new state-of-the-art 110,000 sq ft laboratory. This, along with an established Professional Advancement Ladder (PAL), provides additional opportunities for growth within our system. VUMC is an academic medicine environment, providing team members frequent interaction with clinical teams and exposure to complex and novel infectious cases.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Completes daily workload as assigned to include embedding, cutting, and staining tissue specimens.
Performs and documents routine maintenance; maintains departmental records as assigned.
Maintains department supplies at acceptable levels.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES: DIAGNOSTIC TESTING - (NOVICE): Demonstrates proficiency of diagnostic testing in practical applications. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering results.
EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE - (NOVICE):- Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to maintain equipment, products, or systems in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Assures that parts inventory is sufficient.
