JOB SUMMARY

The Research Investigator 1 leads and manages a laboratory performing research in a discipline that supports the goals of the institution. This position collaborates with other faculty and clinicians, and performs research with the goal of publishing in high impact journals and seeking peer-reviewed funding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

  • Develops and oversees laboratory research programs.
  • Manages the lab including personnel, regulatory compliance and adherence to budgets. Obtains and maintains in good standing required approvals. Oversees and exemplifies compliance of lab members (IRB, IACUC, IBC, radiation safety, shipping requirements, etc.).
  • Publishes research, and produces and discloses intellectual property. Assures the scientific integrity of the research, protection and sharing of data.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Institute and the greater community, presenting and attending works-in-progress, seminars, journal clubs, thesis defense, etc.
  • Seeks external peer-reviewed funding.
  • Serves as a faculty member participating in the development of the institution, sharing and contributing ideas and expertise.
  • Mentors students, post docs or others.


KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Two years of experience after Post Doctoral Fellowship, or three years of experience in a Research Post Doctoral role or experience in a research lab, clinical lab or animal care facility.
  • Knowledge of all lab techniques and equipment to be utilized in planned research.
  • Ability to interpret data and use statistical tools.
  • Ability to make scientific presentations and publish findings.
  • Knowledge of safety, regulatory and compliance requirements for work performed.
  • Ability to manage personnel.
  • Ability to budget and manage resources to budget.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION - Doctorate
  • EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience
  • Preferred Qualification and Experience: PhD, plus some post grad experience, experience writing and implementing grant funded projects.
