You.

You bring your body, mind, heart and spirit to your work as a Cytotechnologist.

Your compassion is tangible: patients feel it in the hand they hold. Families feel it in your prayers. Colleagues feel it in your support.

Youâ™re generous with your thoughts, your partnerships and especially your voice, because your opinion matters.

Youâ™re great at what you do, but you want to be part of something even greater. Because you believe that while individuals can be strong, the right team is invincible.

Us.

St. Maryâ™s Medical Center is part of SCL Health, a faith-based, nonprofit healthcare organization that focuses on person-centered care. Our 346-bed regional medical center is in Grand Junction, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Our mission is to bring health and hope to the poor, the vulnerable, our communities and each other.

Benefits are one of the ways we encourage health for you and your family. Our generous package includes medical, dental and vision coverage. But health is more than a well-working body: it encompasses body, mind and social well-being. To that end, weâ™ve launched a Healthy Living program to address your holistic health. Healthy Living includes financial incentives, digital tools, tobacco cessation, classes, counseling and paid time off. We also offer financial wellness tools and retirement planning.

We.

Together weâ™ll align mission and careers, values and workplace. Weâ™ll encourage joy and take pride in our integrity.

Weâ™ll laugh at each otherâ™s jokes (even the bad ones). Weâ™ll hello and high five. Weâ™ll celebrate milestones and acknowledge the value of spirituality in healing.

Weâ™re proud of what we know, which includes how much there is to learn.

Your day.

As a Cytotechnologist you need to know how to:

  • Accurately process and prepare specimens for screening. Correlate patient history to cellular findings and choose appropriate cases for pathologist review. Allow appropriate time for slide review of cases, screen the total area of each slide, and adhere to guidelines for daily workload standards. Follow specimen acceptance guidelines and technical procedures. Understand and appropriately utilize stains, fixative and reagents. Perform look-back as required, and utilize appropriate action with abnormal and/or unusual and/or inadequate test specimens/results. Perform specimen procedures and collection procedures as required.

  • Review and evaluate completed tests for quality, accuracy, and completeness. Recognize basic cytology quality assurance problems and take appropriate corrective action. Record and evaluate quality control data. Identify and implement solutions to problems as identified through Quality Assurance, Quality Control or Performance Improvement Initiatives.

  • Assist in maintaining the laboratory section to CLIA, CAP and Joint Commission standards and regulatory requirements. Perform proficiency testing as required by accreditation agencies.

  • Document and communicate information thoroughly and accurately. Ensure safe and effective hand off between shifts by communicating clearly with oncoming shift. Monitor equipment reliability and safety. Reports issues and/or repairs or service due. Order and stock supplies, clean rooms, and equipment to maintain work environment.

  • Perform special projects as assigned. Complete special projects and tasks within time guidelines and review progress with the section manager as needed. Assist in writing and reviewing new policy/procedure for the section as needed. Provide education to others as needed, assists in LIS design, upgrades, and maintenance of database, if required. Participate in learning activities to expand understanding and knowledge of the field of cytology.

Your experience.

We hire people, not resumes. But we also expect excellence, which is why we require:

  • Bachelorâ™s Degree in Cytology, required

  • Current Cytotechnologist (CT) certification (ASCP), required

  • At least one (1) year of laboratory experience, preferred

Your next move.

Now that you know more about being a Cytotechnologist on our team we hope youâ™ll join us. At SCL Health youâ™ll reaffirm every day how much you love this work, and why you were called to it in the first place.
