Responsibilities

  • Promotes and maintain effective and professional communication with patients, clients, co-workers and SCCA colleagues
  • Works efficiently to minimize patient wait times
  • Performs specimen processing of specimens
  • Attendance & punctuality: is prompt for work and seeks support and guidance if needed regarding absenteeism
  • Meets attendance and punctuality expectations
  • May include Patient Service Representative duties
  • Proficient in the use of email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment
  • Able to learn computer skills in a timely manner
  • Processes specimens including centrifugation, aliquoting, and dispensing specimens to proper lab processing and sendout sites
  • Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance programs and projects
  • Records variances of standard policies and procedures in Patient Safety Net accurately and where required
  • Responsible for receiving patients for blood draw appointments and scheduling walk-in appointments
  • May be asked to cover alternative shifts or weekends as needed per staffing
  • Has the ability to work under pressure and adjust to changing workloads
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Assists with the coordination of daily workflow
  • Troubleshoots and collaborates with other departments to resolve issues
  • May participate in department and/or SCCA process improvement initiative
  • Demonstrates professionalism
  • Will perform either bone marrow assistant duties and/or the Transfusion Service Support function
  • May participate in training and mentoring of new employees

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School graduation or the equivalent
  • WA State MA/Phlebotomist/LPN certification Required
  • Competency as Tech I or minimum of one year work experience in a laboratory environment
  • Experience with use of Electronic Medical Records system
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Proficient in the use of email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
  • Ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
  • Demonstrates initiative as evidenced by advancing technical skills, sharing knowledge with others and taking on more responsibility.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology

Preferred:

  • Specimen handling and processing experience including accessioning, centrifuge, aliquoting, sendouts and blood banking
  • EPIC/Cadence, answering phones/handling phone inquiries from patients and staff
  • Intermediate ability with MS Word and Excel

SCCA has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy, and there are no exceptions for any employee who is patient-facing and/or requires access to SCCA facilities.

Exceptions exist only for employees whose positions are fully remote, with no required access to campus. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees requiring access to campus must provide proof of vaccination before their first day of employment.
