As the Advisory Laboratorian and member of the Medical Test Site team, you will support the Department of Heath’s (DOH) mission to protect and improve the health of people in the state of Washington. You will accomplish this by using your professional and technical expertise conducting inspections and investigations in medical test sites by determining ongoing compliance with State regulations (70.42 RCW, 246-338WAC) through:
- Conducting onsite inspections and investigations in multiple geographic areas within Washington State to determine compliance with state regulations. Some of the ways you’ll determine compliance is by performing onsite observations, interviews and record reviews of Medical Test Sites through reviewing policy and procedures, interviewing staff, observations of laboratory practices, review staff training requirements, etc. This would include interviewing laboratory directors or designated representatives to discuss concerns with laboratory practices.
- Utilize computer programs in conjunction with state rules/regulations to write statement of deficiency reports, review and approve or disapprove the Medical Test Site’s plan of correction, send letters of survey/investigation closure or letter of denial of the plan of correction requesting the Medical Test Site to re-submit an acceptable plan of correction.
- Conduct follow-up inspections as needed to ensure the Medical Test Site has implemented their plan of correction.
- Provide technical assistance to Medical Test Sites regarding laws, rules, policies/ procedures, and regulations.
This recruitment is for a full-time, permanent Advisory Laboratorian position in the Office of Health Systems Oversight, Division of Health Systems Quality Assurance.
The duty station for this position is in Tumwater, WA. Currently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, telework (mobile-work) is expected. The incumbent will work with their supervisor to identify an appropriate work schedule and balance including telework and reporting to the Tumwater duty station for work activities, as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Option 1: A Master’s degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, medical technology, public health or a closely allied field; AND four (4) years of clinical laboratory experience, one of which includes supervisory, consultative or surveying experience.
- Option 2: A Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, medical technology, public health or a closely allied field; AND six (6) years of clinical laboratory experience, one of which includes supervisory, consultative or surveying experience.
AND
- One (1) year of experience as an intern in a clinical medical technology program.
- National certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
- Demonstrated experience using the following Microsoft Office software:
- MS Word to create, format, edit, preview, print, and save documents.
- MS Outlook to compose, send and respond to electronic mail, update calendar and create meeting requests.
- MS Excel or Access to input data, design and create reports containing table relationships and look up fields, apply advanced filters and queries.
