Director, ChristianaCare Oncology Hematology

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Medical Group (MG) operations lead to advance patient safety, clinical quality, clinical analytics, and operations efficiency in our MG practices. The director is responsible for developing and attaining established performance and outcome goals in collaboration with Care leaders, Population Health leaders and Medical Group leaders. The director will serve as a liaison for the cancer service line as it relates to Medical and Hematology Oncology and campus leadership while leading efforts across the organization focusing on and advancing Continuous Improvement (LEAN), continuous learning, and supporting organizational vision and goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for providing the strategic direction for practice discipline across operations, including patient care delivery, process, root cause analysis, and quality improvement in collaboration with core primary care, population health and medical group leaders.
  • Networks to stay abreast of innovative practices, evolving technology within ambulatory care settings.
  • Strong healthcare operations acumen for developing established practices goals for fiscal viability and long term stability.
  • Aligns strategy and vision to develop business plans that capitalize on new services while minimizing risk. Details financial and operating objectives.
  • Actively participate in the business planning process for strategic development, integrations and expansion of services within the medical group.
  • Interpret key performance indicators for each practice and determine root cause for variances while implementing solutions to improve results.
  • Responsible for driving improvement, optimization, and standardization across practices.
  • Cultivate a healthy practice environment that enables you to recruit and retain top talent
  • Develops business case for additional FTEs while ensuring maximal productivity, top of license practice, and efficient practice management.
  • Partners with clinicians to forecast volumes, space, and equipment needs for patient population.
  • Prepares justification for capital request purchases.
  • Operates within the established annual budgeted level of financial performance.
  • Manages practices managers at multiple locations including selection, onboarding, development and recognition.
  • Collaborates with nursing and physician leadership to develop and implement medical group policies, protocols, procedures, and standards to ensure top of license work is performed.
  • Directly aligns with population health and quality teams to achieve desired outcomes in value-based contracts
  • Oversees the development of standard work, role, office flow, maximizing access, and an overall positive patient experience.
  • Coordinate resources as needed to support effective IT improvements, marketing strategies, patient experience, and practice operations.
  • Create brand awareness through patient experience bringing to life our values of excellence and love as We Serve Together.
  • Effectively translate key messages to various audiences.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. In a timely manner, reports to supervisor any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:

Frequent contact with Medical Directors for related clinical practices, medical and other professional staff from various service lines, medical group, system departments, and community agencies.

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

Employees include but is not limited to the following: practice managers, supervisors, administrative support, and other members of assigned operations team

DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in a related field such as nursing, medical technology, business, clinical healthcare, or healthcare management. Master's degree in a related field preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of healthcare experience on a management level required, with a focus on quality, safety, regulatory/accreditation and financial performance preferred. Minimum 6 years of direct practice medical practice leadership experience in lieu of degree may be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to build successful relationships

Strong financial acumen

Proven change leadership skills, with a strong ability to engage, energize and motivate teams

Excellent ability to create a sense of shared ownership and accountability team

Strategic thinking and strong execution skills

Excellent judgment and decision making skills

Demonstrated results orientation with an ability to lead redesign of the practice and processes to drive results

Excels at oral, written and relational communication skills; organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Skill in analytical and critical thinking

Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as "Lean Concepts" preferred.

Knowledge of public health principles, theories and practices.
