Description

The Division of Pathology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in affiliation with the Department of Pathology, University of Cincinnati, is seeking a full-time Pathologist with combined skills in surgical pathology and neuropathology, including frozen section diagnosis, experience with brain, nerve and muscle biopsies, and brain autopsies.

The full-time academic appointment may be at the Assistant, Associate or Professorial level, depending on candidates' qualifications and experience. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.

Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD or equivalent degree and have or be eligible for an unrestricted Ohio medical license. Qualified applicants should be board certified in anatomic pathology (with or without clinical pathology). Fellowship training in neuropathology is required. The successful recruit will also have the skills to carry out neuropathological or related research as a thought leader or collaborative team member. Extramural research funding is welcome, but not required. Teaching and mentoring of medical students, pathology residents and fellows will be an integral component of the position.

The Division of Pathology provides a comprehensive and full service anatomic diagnostic support for all clinical general and subspecialty pediatric programs. The Division of Pathology processes approximately 15,000 pediatric surgical specimens a year and greater than 1,000 outside consultations. Approximately 125 autopsies are performed each year, with over 20 autopsies represented by neuropathology cases. Weekly brain cutting sessions are held and several research autopsies to support our brain tumor research programs are supported.

Cincinnati Children's Hospital is known for its stimulating environment providing ample opportunity for clinical and translational research collaboration. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is ranked in the top three national pediatric hospitals in the country for a decade, among 200 hospitals surveyed by US News and World Report. Additionally, we are recognized for excellence across 10 specialties, which include Cancer and Neurology& Neurosurgery. Our robust clinical service processes over 400 neuropathology cases, annually. Our state-of-the-art Electron Microscopy facility provides rapid opportunities for the evaluation of metabolic brain diseases and muscle biopsies. We are also investing in a Molecular Pathology Laboratory in order to further support our clinical oncologic programs. Among pediatric institutions, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is the second-highest ranking recipient of research grants from the National Institutes of Health. There are several NIH-funded centers of excellence, including Immunology, Developmental Biology, Cardiovascular Biology, Pulmonary Biology, Cancer/Experimental Hematology, and the Respiratory, Kidney and Digestive Disease Centers. Multiple cores support basic and translational research including genomics, high-density data informatics/systems biology, mouse models of cancer and stem cell and gene/viral vector therapy. This gives us the unique opportunity to influence future generations and develop leaders in pediatric pathology. Cincinnati is a vibrant city with a metropolitan population of 2.1 million. Cincinnati features world-class cultural amenities and a very affordable cost of living, which together make Cincinnati one of America's most livable cities.
