Description

The Hematology Gene and Cell Therapy Program has an excellent opportunity for a talented researcher to join our highly collaborative team of research scientists and clinical researchers working on gene therapy, gene editing for hematopoietic disorders, and animal models of human diseases.

About the role:
The Malik lab at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has led many gene therapy studies on hematopoietic stem cell disorders, such as hemoglobinopathies (thalassemia and sickle cell disease), immune deficiency (X-SCID) and immune dysregulatory disorders (HLH) and using a variety of viral vectors and have translated these efforts with retroviral and lentiviral vectors into clinical trials for these diseases. The lab is now focused on gene editing for hematopoietic diseases, with a focus on designing platforms that primarily mediate homology directed repair. We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Research Associate to contribute and lead a gene editing project. Experiments could be designed to take advantage of existing expertise in human hematopoietic stem cell xenograft models and mouse models of these genetic disorders, the ability of the lab to use these models and technologies for discovery and translation of lentiviral gene therapy trials, single-cell sequencing, CRISPR/Cas gene editing and patient-derived hematopoietic stem cells. The successful applicant will lead a gene editing project and work with a team of experimental biologists within the Malik Lab to generate high quality in vitro and in vivo data that can result in high impact publications, as well as foster grant applications and career development to a faculty level position in 2-3 years.

About the Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation:
  • Among the top in NIH funding for pediatric research institutions
  • Over 1.4 million square feet of research laboratory space
