• Working with the laboratory manager to assure that adequate numbers of fully trained and competent staff are scheduled to perform the work of the laboratory.
• Providing input to the hiring, progressive discipline and termination processes.
• Working with staff to identify and resolve complex technical and procedural problems occurring on the shifts, and coaching staff on appropriate strategies for handling future occurrences.
• Communicating all significant problems, trends and issues to the leadership of the laboratory and develops strategies for improvement.
• Training and teaching laboratory personnel and other clinical staff. Communicating principle/theory to physicians and other professional staff.
• Contributing to department continuing education. May observe, guide, verify and check documentation of less experienced lab personnel.
• Monitoring and ensuring the quality of shift work being performed.
• Participating in department continuing education including training program expanding scope of knowledge.
• Maintaining communications with customers and clients of the laboratory.
• Performing a variety of special projects or additional work as needed/assigned including participating in new test development and evaluation.
• Drafting procedures/protocols as directed.

To qualify, you must have:

• The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or a closely related field plus an internship.
• 3 to 4 years of experience.
• The analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of clinical, scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts and in-depth, cross-functional experienced-based knowledge.
• Excellent communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions or well-developed writing skills.

Shift/Hours:  Various shifts available

• Bacteriology: Evening: 2:30pm-11:00pm.
• Blood Bank: Evening: 2:00pm-10:30pm (Monday – Friday)

Certification, Registration, or Licensure Required:

• Current registration/certification as a Medical Technologist-MT(ASCP) or technologist registered or certified in specific categories as follows: H,C,M,I,BB(ASCP) CLS,BB,H,C,M(NCA) RM(AAM) (HEW)
