Under the directions of the Medical Directors and management staff, Medical Laboratory Technician processes and tests all types of laboratory specimens; Medical Laboratory Technician reviews and reports lab results; performs operational duties, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Medical Laboratory Technician completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.Due to the nature of Laboratory Services, it may become necessary to require Medical Laboratory Technician to work extended hours or other variations of the usual shift to ensure adequate care of patients and maintain service to the community
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Associate's degree or equivalent experience; graduate of accredited school of medical laboratory technicians or equivalent. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489, Jan. 24, 2003).
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 0 -2 years as a medical laboratory technician.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:Registered or Registry-eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, AMT or equivalent) within one year of hire. Must maintain certification. Anyone hired before 04/01/2016 will be grandfathered and will not be required to obtain this certification. If the certification was obtained before 04/01/2016, certification must be maintained.
