Employees in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and/or service based on the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her service group.
Must have a BA/BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science, or other related science.
Minimum of completed pre-licensure training in California State Department Public Health accredited training program. Post-licensure experience in an acute care hospital laboratory preferred.
E2. ligible to be reclassified as Clinical Laboratory Scientist II upon meeting the requirements required by the department and/or upon fulfilling the Clinical Laboratory Scientist II job description.
Current valid California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or a limited California license in a specialization such as microbiology
Possess BLS (Heartsaver) Certificate American Heart Association preferred
Responsible for ensuring duties of assigned shift or work area are completed, working with other staff to adjust workload as necessary
Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of hospital polices and department policies and procedures. Responsible for performing job within the parameters of these policies and procedures: the following examples are not inclusive of all policies:
Follow all appropriate Blood and Body Fluid Precautions
Comply with laboratory quality control program
Follow turnaround time policies
Use computer for data entry and information retrieval
Handle and process lab specimens
Perform test procedures specific to assigned section
Check test results for validity
Responsible for maintenance, calibration, and assessing accuracy and reproducibility of instrumentation
Keep equipment and work area clean and safe for use
Participate in competency testing and training
Participate in Proficiency Testing (CAP surveys)
Keep adequate stock of supplies in work area
Responsible for the operation of the assigned work area
Direct and instruct others in the performance of laboratory procedures
Routine care and maintenance of equipment in assigned work area or program i.e. safety, POC
Development, implementation, and monitoring of:
Quality Control Programs
Proficiency Testing Program
Competency Testing Program
Development, review, and revision of procedures for testing and instrumentation
