Is responsible for assisting the Laboratory Director in managing the performance of laboratory procedures for all age groups from neonate through geriatric according to established hospital and department policies and procedures. Is responsible for managing financial, employee and interdepartmental relations.
Accurately performs all complexity testing assigned.
Maintains appropriate staff and schedule on a 24-hour basis.
Assists the Laboratory Director in the hiring and orientation of new employees.
Assists Laboratory Director in performing Competency Assessments and Evaluations.
Prepares for inspections by regulatory agencies.
Prepares data collection and analysis required for laboratory accreditation as needed.
Assists the Laboratory Director in maintaining an effective budget.
Promotes multidisciplinary team approach in assessing department support for outpatient services, emergency room services and physician clients.
Serves on designated facility committees as needed.
Assists Laboratory Director in maintaining functional instruments and adequate supplies.
Assists with keeping the laboratory clean, orderly and well stocked.
Participates in ongoing professional development.
Performs other duties as assigned or directed.
Completes and reports all test results in a timely manner with appropriate and accurate documentation.
Analyzes quality control data. Troubleshoots and corrects out of range results in a timely manner.
Always performs instrument preventative maintenance procedures as required.
Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions in a timely manner and attempts to correct problems.
Effectively operates the Laboratory Computer System for general laboratory and section.
Performs proficiency testing required for accreditation in a timely and accurate manner.
Assists supervision in data collection and analysis required for laboratory accreditation as needed.
Willingly accepts extra assignments and phlebotomy duties. Assists co-workers in completing department and shift duties.
