Bayhealth is Central and Southern Delaware's largest health care system, Bayhealth is comprised of Bayhealth Kent Campus, Bayhealth Sussex Campus, the freestanding Emergency Department in Smyrna as well as numerous satellite facilities and employed physician practices encompassing a variety of specialties.
Assists the Laboratory Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager in the operational and/or technical management of assigned section(s) by ensuring proper day to day operations of the laboratory discipline(s) and serves as a resource person for problem solving. Responds to changes in workload as necessary and leads adjustments in work assignments in real-time fashion in the absence of the supervisor. The Lead is accountable for ensuring that appropriate and timely specimen handling, delivery, specimen testing, results reporting, and customer service are provided in efficient and cost-effective manner in accordance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures. The Lead works independently in cooperation with the Laboratory Section Supervisor or Laboratory Manager and/or Outpatient Service Center Manager (if applicable). In the absence of a supervisor, may be designated to serve as acting supervisor, with all incumbent duties of the supervisor.
Minimum and Preferred Education and Experience
Must meet one of the following CLIA defined education requirements to qualify as testing personnel for high complexity testing (CLIA: 42 CFR 493.1489):
Have earned a doctoral, master's or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution;
Have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or - (ii) Have education and training equivalent to that specified in paragraph (2)(i) of this section that includes at least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either - (a) 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or (b) 24 semester hours of science courses that include - (i) Six semester hours of chemistry; (ii) Six semester hours of biology; and (iii) Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
Three years of relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, or 5 years experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent position performing high-complexity laboratory testing
Basic computer literacy
Experience with Laboratory Computer systems.
MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP), MT (AMT),CLS (NCA), MLT(ASCP) or equivalent certification within 12 months of hire date/promotion date
Specialty Certification in area of responsibility (ASCP)
