The Pathology department at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has an open Manager of Anatomic Pathology position. We are seeking a highly skilled, dynamic, and innovative leader who will oversee operations related to intraoperative consultation, routine/special histology including IHC and ISH non-gyn cytology, morgue operations and clinical research studies that have secondary aims related to histology. The laboratories at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital operate within robust quality management systems and are accredited by the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation and ISO15189 Accreditation programs. The laboratory is licensed by the states of TN, CA, and PA. The anatomic pathology service is highly complex and critical for clinical diagnostics and pediatric solid tumor clinical trial operations. The manager will work with the medical director to innovate and improve technical operations that effectively support patient care. St. Jude is entering an exciting time with a new $11.5 billion strategic plan which will see the implementation of a new EHR, the planning and building of new clinical laboratory facilities and the implementation of digital pathology.
Uses and maintains current theoretical knowledge and technical skills to aid laboratory staff and other customers such as physicians, students and researchers. Supervises and effectively manages all technical and support personnel in Anatomic Pathology. Performs, evaluates, and reports test results as outlined in the section's standard operating procedures. Is responsible for the accurate and efficient performance of all work assignments in Anatomic Pathology. The Manager-Anatomic Pathology is subject to extended hours, weekends, and callback. Employee must meet the qualifications as defined in CLIA requirements 42 CFR Part 493 for one or more of the following roles based on education, experience and responsibilities, performed by specific incumbent, within the job: Technical Consultant, Technical Supervisor, General Supervisor and/or Testing personnel. Department will designate and maintain records for individual specific qualifications.
BS degree required
MHA or MBA preferred
Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology Program required
7 years of medical laboratory experience in Anatomic Pathology
Must have extensive knowledge of laboratory procedures with a specific knowledge of procedures in Anatomic Pathology become an authority in that discipline
Supervisory experience preferred
Certification as either a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology required (may be certified for life or renewable every 5 years)
Qualification in Immunohistochemistry (QIHC) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Registry required (renewable every five years)
