Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Laboratory Service, the Laboratory Medical Technologist is responsible for planning and providing high quality patient diagnostic information in a manner consistent with the mission, values, and operating principles of the hospital. Accountable for ensuring that appropriate diagnostic information is provided in accordance with the highest professional standards in accuracy, speed and consistent quality.
Performs manual and automated tests on human blood, urine and body fluids using different methods and instrumentation.
Monitors and ensures specimens acceptability.
Evaluates test results to ensure that accurate levels of analytical performance are maintained.
Responsible for the evaluation and review of internal quality controls in accordance with regulatory requirements and provides corrective actions as necessary.
Reviews all laboratory test requests, released results and reports for accuracy; takes necessary corrective action in consultation with the Laboratory Supervisor.
Responsible for performance of required routine equipment maintenance, review and documentation for all instruments.
Assists the Supervisor in inventory of all reagents and lab supplies. Notifies the Supervisor immediately in case of reagents shortage.
Assists the Supervisor in ensuring competency of other staff members.
Assists the Supervisor as appropriate in all lab-related quality assurance activities.
Participates in other hospital activities and committees as appropriate.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or any other health related field from an accredited College or University.
