The VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System is currently recruiting for a highly energetic and motivated individual to join our team as a Medical Technologist, Laboratory Information Manager (LIM), in our Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. This position is located in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the VA Salt Lake City Healthcare System. The position reports to the Laboratory Manager. The Medical Technologist, Laboratory Information Manager (LIM), develops and recommends new policies and procedures regarding the installation and use of the laboratory information system in conjunction with the overall hospital information system. This position serves as the Bar Code Expansion Coordinator (BCEC) with responsibility to implement, monitor and report to the national BCE Project Team the Bar Code Resource Office, and other stakeholders upon request. Duties of the position include and are not limited to: Develops, implements, maintains and modifies various computer applications such as reporting system that provides reports which contain the criteria under which the report was issued; patient results; and references to background information on the tests, laboratory VistA files, including the test catalog and listing of reference values of various tests Coordinates and ensures effectiveness of manual backup systems, including hard copy reporting of laboratory results to assure continuity and timeliness of report availability and to implement data entry after recovery for patient reports which include Laboratory Management Index Program (LIMP) or workload reporting, the Emerging Pathogen Initiative for national data collection and preventive maintenance schedules for logs for computer hardware Implements and participates in laboratory quality assurance programs, acts to coordinate data flow from computer record searches to target requestor, reports billing for other parties for work done at the Salt Lake City VA by the service Maintains and revises the laboratory testing catalog and listing of reference ranges for various tests Develops and provides training at the appropriate level of knowledge and skill to meet users' position requirements and provides guidance to technologists, support workers o compute related problems concerning data inputs, new procedures, updates, etc. Responsible for interfacing various laboratory instruments to provide a more rapid and reliable flow of patient results into the VistA system Implements the LEDI software Writes and revises computer technical manuals, user manual, protocols and forms. Providers and is responsible for orientation and training at the appropriate levels of knowledge and skill to meet users' position requirements Ensures documentation for accreditation requirements for the College of American Pathologies, Joint Commission and VA regulation pertaining to computer services Serve as the Liaison between administration, clinical staff, and technical staff regarding the clinical, business, technical operations management processes. Ensures compliance with local and national policies and procedures, and Federal regulations Ensure local compliance with information and cyber security requirement Facilitate training, installation, implementation, maintenance and overall use of the BCE throughout the medical center and outpatient clinic areas Test and verify released patches for functionality before moving into the production account Report and resolve clinical, business operational and technical issues through approved channels Assess and monitor clinical workflow and outcomes pre- and post- implementation Perform initial and ongoing skill - gap analysis of users (hardware/software); resolve identified user issues prior to implementation, review of BCE competency checklists with appropriate clinical managers Establish baseline measures (data collection, analysis, reporting) through standardized methodologies pre- and post- implementation Submit reports as requested Actively participate in local facility and VISN Bar Code Multidisciplinary Committees Act as the conduit between the Bar Code Resource Office (BCRO), facility level management and other stakeholders Respond to BCRO and other agency queries, surveys, and questionnaires as requested Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 07:30 to 4:00pm, Rotational holidays and weekends may be required Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
