The Department of Pathology at University of Iowa Health Care is currently accepting applications for a Clinical Care/Specialized Services Supervisor (working title: Medical Lab Scientist Supervisor) position in Core Services. Individuals filling these positions will ensure the smooth, efficient operation of a clinical laboratory unit or shift. Perform clinical laboratory analyses on biological specimens to provide information used in the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease. Many of the procedures involve numerous highly complex tests and techniques that require the use of professional judgment. This position will have responsibility for leading other laboratory professionals and continuously interacting and consulting with section management and other allied health care professionals.
The schedule for this position will primarily be Friday - Monday, 0400-1430, with rotating on-call responsibilities.

A Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology program from an accredited college/university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
One (1) – three (3) years clinical laboratory experience within the past five (5) years is required.
One (1) – three (3) years of experience with high complexity testing is required for any position that will oversee a unit which performs high complexity testing.
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or specialist certification in appropriate laboratory discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) from Health Education and Welfare (HEW) is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and skills shown by successfully leading teams/groups in projects, work assignments, policy updates, etc. is required.
Experience with validation and implementation of new testing or instruments.
Experience with laboratory inspection and accreditation activities.
Experience working in an academic health center.
Knowledge of and applied experience working with collective bargaining work rules.
Experience developing and delivering laboratory sciences-based technical training.
Experience working with total laboratory automation.
Experiences working with middleware.
System to instrument interface experience
Excellent documentation skills
Additional Salary Information: Starting salary is $51,012.00/year. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
