The Department of Laboratory Medicine - Clinical Chemistry Laboratory at Yale-New Haven Hospital, has available for hire a Full Time 2nd Shift Coordinator position. This 40-hour position is evening shift, Monday – Friday
3:00 PM – 11:30 PM with rotating weekends and holidays.
Schedule flexibility required for special projects and IT considerations.
The Yale-New Haven Hospital Clinical Chemistry Laboratory is one of the largest academic laboratories, with a long and rich history in Laboratory Medicine. In 1947, Pauline Hald, a clinical chemist at Yale, reported the first flame photometric measurements of sodium and potassium in serum which changed the course of medicine. In subsequent decades, the discipline of clinical chemistry as practiced today commenced under the leadership of David Seligson, first Chair of Laboratory Medicine. Today, the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory offers state of the art automated testing on a brand-new Roche 8000/8100 line for general chemistry, endocrinology, cardiac and tumor markers as well as prenatal testing on the Beckman DXI platform. In addition, the subsection of special chemistry offers therapeutic drug monitoring, pain management testing, inborn errors of metabolism detection, Vitamin D testing on eight mass spectrometers with on-going test development for sex hormones and thyroglobulin.
This position reports to the Laboratory Manager of the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory.
Duties include a range of technical, administrative, and supervisory functions.
Applicants must demonstrate autonomy and logic based decision-making skills.
Major duties include; oversight and participation in routine daily operations and assuring continuous reporting of accurate results in a timely manner while maintaining a safe, pleasant, and professional environment for staff in all areas of responsibility. Performance of both manual and automated procedures in Automated Chemistry is required. Duties will include quality control oversight, instrument maintenance, and communication with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff. In addition, duties may include specimen accessioning, processing, and aliquotting.
Minimum (3) years full time equivalent experience as a Medical Technologist in a high complexity Clinical Chemistry Laboratory is required.
Bachelor’s degree required. MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP), C (ASCP), or equivalent certification is required. Strong computer skills and Microsoft experience is required. Ability to use and familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems is required. Analytical knowledge required for all assays in areas of responsibility. High level QC and QA skillset required. Strong supervisory and group leadership skills are required. Ability to instruct and assign activities while communicating effectively and professionally with all hospital staff members is required. Actions must consistently exemplify all HRO, CHAMP, Service Excellence, and employee handbook guidelines. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are required. Must have the ability to multi-task, problem solve, and work as a member of a diverse team.
