The Birmingham VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for one Registered Nurse to help us with our Ambulatory Surgery Facility (ASF) in support of COVID19. This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until June 30, 2021. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be Thursday, 6 May, 2021 with subsequent cut-off dates every Monday. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. The Registered Nurse, Patient Care Service (Ambulatory Surgery Facility), is a professional caregiver who is responsible/accountable for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients who are having operative and invasive procedures requiring general anesthesia, regional blocks, and moderate sedation. Primary duties will be in the Pain Suite, including the pain clinic. Other patient care assignment will include ASF and Imaging when deemed necessary. Duties include but are not limited to: Utilizes the nursing process including technology, therapeutic interventions, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with members of the interdisciplinary team. Provides total nursing care to an outpatient and inpatient population. Provides day-to-day oversight of patient flow, serving as a resource for the interdisciplinary team. Administers medications and treatment procedures per established policies and guidelines. Considers all characteristics of the individual, including sex and sex role identification, age and life stage, state of health, race and culture, socio-economic status, values and previous experience with similar events, in order to assist each patient to identify and meet basic health needs and improve his/her health status to the individual's maximum. Demonstrates knowledge of VA policies, procedures and clinical protocols. Influences outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance includes knowledge and active participation in unit / program level quality improvement processes, initiatives, and customer service. Responsible for ensuring his/her actions contribute to a mode of continued accreditation readiness regarding Joint Commission (TJC), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), VA surveyors, Laboratory College of American Pathologists (CAP), and other survey teams. Consistently protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, statues and policy, and VHA policy. Position requires flexibility in time schedules and assignment, as this is a 24/7 hospital. Work Schedule: Rotating Tours 8 hour tours, beginning at 6:30 a.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m. Selectee's tour of duty will be determined by Supervisor/Manager upon hire, and will be based on the needs of the unit.
