This is a Medical Technician position assigned to the Clinical Testing Unit (CTU) within Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS) at the Dayton VA Medical Center the responsibility for performing variety of procedures including simple to moderately complex testing and infrequently requested tests. Major duties include but are not limited to: Follows proper procedure for drawing blood, including but not limited to proper tubes collected, correct amount of blood drawn). Performs blood drawing duties in a courteous manner and makes the patient feel comfortable. Labels specimens appropriately. Received requests from testing into the laboratory and verifies accuracy of order. Processes specimens according to the strict guidelines to assure specimen integrity. Answers incoming calls for laboratory services in a professional and courteous manner. Retrieves and adds tests to previously collected specimens according to strict guidelines Protects PII/PHI per Medical Center Policy. Performs Chain of Custody Drug Screen collection. Transports specimens from units to laboratory service as needed. Knowledge of laboratory operations, mission of VA Medical Center to ensure goals and aims of VA Medical Center are always accomplished in established timeframe. Ensures quality control and calibrations are performed as appropriate and takes corrective action as needed and documents appropriately. Accurately performs and records tests as assigned.
