This position is a Team Leader Medical Technologist that facilitates team or unit processes by working in collaboration with team members to ensure tasks, priorities, goals and achievements are coordinated with management. Responsible for all aspects of operation in their area of specialty including preparation and maintenance of records, reports, analysis of testing methodologies, training, instrumentation and compliance. Acts as a liaison to other department of the medical center. Duties and responsibilities of the Team Leader Medical Technologist include but are not limited to: Calibrates and evaluates results of calibration of section instruments, with minimal assistance and according to established procedures. Performs "in vitro" analysis of human biological specimens, responding immediately to STAT orders, to obtain results in a timely manner, using section procedures, established guidelines and minimal assistance. Streamlines or changes work assignment of other technologists, as needed, to complete daily workload in a timely fashion. Evaluates test results for clinical relevance, detecting instrument malfunctions and initiating further confirmatory testing if necessary. Enters or verifies test results into the computer system accurately and completely, calling-in the panic results immediately according to the established policies. Receives and stores new reagents, performs section inventories monthly and is responsible for timely regents use based on their expiration date. Assists with ordering of section supplies and is responsible for reagents, controls, and calibrators. Performs scheduled maintenance on analytical instruments and associated equipment to assure proper operation, using section's written procedures. Responsible for all aspects of the operation of the department including analysis of testing methodologies and ensuring that the department is inspection ready for all accrediting agencies. Performs and assists other technologists with troubleshooting on analytical instruments to correct malfunctions, using instrument operation and maintenance manuals. Records and documents the instrument maintenance and troubleshooting in log books. Refers unusual problems or unresolved problems immediately to Supervisor or Section Chief. Performs Quality controls and checks daily quality control charts, instrument function checks, Q.C. malfunctions and corrective actions. Facilitates team or unit processes by working in collaboration with team members to ensure that task. Priorities, goals, and achievements are coordinated with management. Prepares reports on testing of extra-mural quality assurance proficiency programs correctly and completely using established guidelines, and submits reports within established timeframe. Compiles and analyzes workload data accurately and completely and submits it review within time frame established by supervisor. Trains and coordinates the training of technologists, technicians and Laboratory Aides in accordance with established guidelines and manuals. Attends and participates in departmental educational seminars and training sessions as assigned. Provides support to the safety and occupational health programs by applying approved standards, regulations, practices, and work methods. Instructs and trains subordinates in hazard communication, asbestos, awareness, fire safety, and maintaining material safety data sheets. Ensures safe working methods, practice, and proper use of protective equipment through routine job safety analysis. Interacts with laboratory personnel in a professional manner and responds promptly and courteously to requests or inquiries from professional staff throughout the medical center. Communicates effectively, orally and in writing, with people form a variety of backgrounds. This includes constructive interaction and cooperation with patients, subordinates and peers. Visitors to the work unit and telephone inquiries are handled courteously, competently. Information provided, message taken and referrals given are accurate and timely and to the maximum extent possible accomplished without supervisory involvement. Acts as a liaison to other departments of the Medical Center for their department. Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with rotating weekends and holidays.
