Medical laboratory scientists (MLSs) and Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) independently perform clinical laboratory procedures in all areas of the laboratory including blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology and microbiology. MLSs and MLTs use their expertise to accurately interpret, document, and report out test results to support the delivery of high-quality patient care. By performing quality control testing, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting they verify the analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and reference ranges for test methods. They routinely communicate professionally with colleagues, providers and other team members and serve as a resource for lab based questions. They are an integral part of the patient care team, supporting effective and efficient diagnosis and treatment.
