The Health Information Management Lead performs a variety of duties as it relates to and supports the assignments of the Health Information Management Department.    This position provides instruction, direction, training, and assistance to all Health Information Management staff acting in a leadership capacity in the absence of the Manager.

This position acts on behalf of MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center as the Custodian of Records of the Health Information Management Department.

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of  MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center.  It is expected that the employee demonstrate behavior consistent with the core values.  The employee shall support MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center’s strategic plan and the goals and directions of the performance improvement plan.

  • Familiarizes self with other Health Information Management clerical procedures and stays current of all Health Information Management areas in the form of cross-training in order to provide assistance as needed.
  • Provides training for new employees on the department’s policy and procedure for the appropriate assigned tasks.
  • Responds to court appearances and depositions as the Custodian of Medical Records.
  • Acts as a resource for the EPIC HIM modules as a “Super user”.
  • Adheres to all patient confidentiality policies and carries out all tasks in a pleasant and respectful manner.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state EHR-related laws and accreditation standards; monitor and communicate changes to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance.
  • Must keep abreast of current and new state and federal laws regarding subpoenas and release of patient information.
  • Acts as the resource for the Health Information Management Specialist in regards to release of information.
  • Accepts subpoenas and able to validate the authenticity of the subpoena.
  • Prepares records that are sent to court in accordance to State and Federal Laws.
  • Strong understanding of suspension process including statistical data and notification letters.
  • Provides Epic support for physicians relating to chart deficiencies and screen pathways.
  • Maintains Clinical Pertinence functions and provides assistance in training related to Quality Control findings.
  • Analyzes and solves problems when needed.
