Job Summary:

The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing an age-specific patient assessment prior to and during procedures, preparing the room and the patient for the procedure, and performing all Radiology/CT procedures. The Technologist utilizes all equipment accurately, evaluates the exam quality, and performs image management. The Radiologic /CT Technologist provides education and communicates with the patient, family, and other healthcare workers and contributes to the efficient operation of the department, promotes the philosophy and ensures the quality and continuity of patient care.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.

Responsible for safe handling of equipment and images.

Instructs and prepares patients for radiographic and/or CT examinations.

Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure.

Programs portable or stationary x-ray machines and makes radiographs for a variety of examinations.

Assists in maintaining files, basic records, images and reports

Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel.

Prepares room with anticipated equipment, supplies and instruments.

Maintains knowledge about radiology imaging equipment including computed radiography, digital radiography and PACs(Picture Archiving and communications system)

Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly.

Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Possesses and utilizes aseptic technique during invasive procedures.

Takes call on a rotating basis for Holidays, Vacations, Weekends, Week days and Sick calls.

Demonstrates computer skills for documenting the patient record.

Is familiar with and maintains both departmental and procedural supplies.

Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.

Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.

Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed orders; documents and diagnosis.

Interacts professionally with staff, patients and family.

Demonstrates proper use of all CT related equipment to meet established protocols. (1) CT scanner s (2) Independent Workstations (3) Patient Monitoring Equipment (4) PAC's, Archiving and Teleradiology (5) Power Injectors (6) Exam related supplies.

Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction.

Contribute to the department's success through effective collaboration, active support of organizational initiatives and achievement of personal and organizational goals.

Assist in identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement in supply management, labor costs and/or patient care.

Assists with the scheduling of patients.

Helps with the transportation of patients to and from the Radiology department.

Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.

Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.

Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.

Professional Requirements:

Adheres to dress code.

Completes annual educational requirements.

Maintains regulatory requirements.

Wears identification while on duty.

Maintains confidentiality at all times.

Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.

Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.

Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards

Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department.

Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures.

Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.

Education/Experience Requirements:

One (1) year of radiologic/imaging experience. Preferred

Prefer specific experience and training in CT/MRI.

Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.

Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Certification in CT preferred.

Current BCLS certification.

Knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.

Current State of Montana License for Radiologic Technology required.
