Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Director, supervises all operations of the laboratory and Point of Care Testing including planning, organizing, responding to staff needs and concerns, and delineating all duties and responsibilities of all testing and support personnel. He/she will assist in monitoring and maintaining supplies inventory at appropriate levels; evaluate, train and motivate staff; and assist in maintaining the Quality Improvement plan including IQCP to fit the needs of the laboratory and the hospital. Responsible for the timely performance of the CAP Proficiency Testing for both laboratory and POC. Assists and coordinates with nurses and physicians in maintaining regulatory compliance and surveys by TJC, CLIA, CMS and State. This position provides leadership in both results production and staffing for the laboratory and serves patients in and out of the hospital of all ages.



Qualifications:

Mandatory

  1. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or Microbiology or related specialty
  2. Six years of practical experience as a licensed Medical Technologist active in all testing areas of the laboratory including Point of Care Testing or equivalent on job training for equal period of time
  3. Must be completely competent in the applications of basic and advanced laboratory testing in all departments and demonstrate command of statistical principles governing documentation of the accuracy of laboratory test procedures including Quality Controls/IQCP and Quality Assurance
  4. Must be knowledgeable of the TJC, CLIA, CMS, and State regulatory compliance
  5. Current California Medical Laboratory Technologist license
Preferred
  1. Previous supervisory experience
  2. Completion of one year of laboratory internship or cumulative experience of two years under direction of an accredited program
  3. Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and technical expertise by coordinating work assignments of laboratory personnel
  4. Must be able to communicate well both verbally and in written form
  5. Must be able to interface effectively with physicians and practitioners
