POSITION TITLE:                     Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist

DEPARTMENT:                        Diagnostic Imaging

REPORTS TO:                          Diagnostic Imaging Director

 

 

FULL TIME

  • BASE SALARY- Starting hourly pay range is $36.00 to $43.94, dependent on relevant experience and qualifications. This position is not bonus eligible.

JOB PURPOSE:  To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.

 

BASIC FUNCTION:  Performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data for use by physicians in diagnosis. Schedules and coordinates tests, records test results, and prepares and maintains operational logs. Calibrates and maintains equipment and orders supplies when needed. Performs general ultrasound including OBGYN, breast, Vascular, Small Parts, Abdomen, Testicular, Thyroid, and procedures etc. Responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their imaging needs. Participates actively in Performance Improvement, Radiation Safety, Patient Satisfaction, Radiological Patient and Physician Education, Continuous Quality Improvement, and other various committees as assigned. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:        Credentialed in ultrasound ARDMS or ARRT(S) required. Experience in OBGYN, Abdomen, Vascular, Breast and Small Parts preferred. Must have current BLS card within 3 months of initial employment and maintain current status throughout GRHD employment.

 

Experience:       Prefer one year of professional Ultrasound experience in a hospital patient care setting. Minimum 18 years of age.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The ability to give and evaluate patient care during imaging examinations. Knowledge of District policies, regulations and procedures in imaging patients. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to safely administer imaging examinations. Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.  Skill in preparing and maintaining records, both written and on computer, and responding to correspondence.  Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, co-workers and the public. Abdomen, Vascular, Small parts and OB/GYN anatomy and scanning protocols preferred. Knowledge and ability to follow the standards of ultrasonography accrediting bodies. Ability to maintain performance improvement and quality control standards. Ability to comply with GRHD organizational polices regarding ethical business practices. Ability to communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the GRHD. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred but not required. Must be proficient within six (6) months of hire in Meditech, PACS, Allscripts EHR, Allscripts ED, Pyxis, Microsoft Office, Kronos, and HealthStream.

Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds and push-pull 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. This position performs tasks that involve Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, body fluids or tissues. Exposure to patients’ conditions and some unpleasant sights, smells and diseases are common.  Frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards. May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric, dismembered and deceased patients.
