Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) located in Dothan, AL seeks an Associate Dean of Clinical Sciences (AD) who will provide visionary strategic, clinical and administrative leadership for the Division of Clinical Sciences.

 

This leadership position offers an opportunity to strengthen and develop effective working relationships across the College of Medicine and Southeast Health, increase clinical scholarly activity, retain and increase the success of clinical site partnership throughout the region, and collaborate with senior faculty members within each Division or Department to mentor junior faculty. The AD also represents the college locally, regionally and nationally to enhance the reputation of the college.

 

Reporting to the Dean of Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Associate Dean will coordinate development and delivery of a curriculum containing sound principles of Clinical Sciences; create an environment conducive to faculty career development and faculty success; and promote the college and its programs through participation in committees and councils within the college infrastructure as well as regionally and nationally to enhance the reputation of the college within academic and research communities.

 

One of only 36 schools of its kind in the nation, the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine is a private nonprofit institution, committed to defining and promoting a culture of professionalism and success. An academic division of Southeast Health, ACOM was founded to address Alabama’s primary care shortage and to fulfill the institution’s mission of providing quality learner-centered osteopathic education, research and service while promoting graduate medical education with an emphasis on patient-centered, team-based primary care to serve the medically underserved areas of Alabama, the tri-state area and the nation. The inaugural class graduated in 2017 - more than 580 graduates to-date, with nearly 58% pursuing careers in primary care, 99% residency placement rate.

The ideal candidate will possess a DO or MD degree with Board Certification by the appropriate AOA or ACGME specialty board and a minimum rank of Associate Professor, with a strong preference for a Professor. Subject to stellar performance, a DO candidate could be part of a developing succession plan to the Dean position.

Additional required experience includes:

  • A minimum of ten years in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership/administrative accomplishments.
