PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Rooms patients to include taking and recording patient vitals.
- Performs point of care testing, injections, medication administration and EKGs as per practice needs.
- Assist clinician with examinations/procedures
- Prepares exam/treatment rooms with necessary supplies and equipment
- Completes necessary patient-specific paperwork as per practice needs
- Ensures EMR is up-to-date with all pertinent test results in preparation for next visit
- Handles patient call backs relaying information per the direction of provider
- As per state guidelines, performs sterilization of medical equipment per practice needs
- Handles prior authorizations, referrals, and medical refills based on practice needs ( Please take this off)
- Schedules tests, procedures and surgeries as per practice needs.
- Performs quality control on all POCT (point of care testing) equipment.
- Provides documentation assistance for providers during examinations and procedures
- Perform clerical duties as assigned by supervisor
- Performs other related duties as required
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS:
Daily contact with patients, physicians, providers and other members of the medical and front office staff. Also interacts with outside medical offices, diagnostic centers, CCHS departments and other companies/organizations based on the needs of the patients.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- A graduate of a recognized Medical Office Assistant Program or
- Hold current Medical Assistant Certification by a national organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
- 2 years' experience as a Medical Assistant, is preferred
- Travel between Newark and Wilmington location
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge to take and record vital signs
Ability to assist providers with examinations and procedures
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of managed care insurance
Knowledge of current ICD and CPT coding requirements
Knowledge of referral process
Ability to administer medications to all age groups
Ability to organize and complete various tasks simultaneously
Ability to apply good oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of computer software
Knowledge of physician office systems and practices
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medical Assistant certification by a national organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) required if working in state of New Jersey.
