Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Molecular Technologist II, known internally as Clinical Laboratory Technologist II, is responsible for performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, including isolation of nucleic acids and Next Generation Sequencing with all associated procedures. The high complexity nature of the work requires excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, the ability to multi-task, flexibility with schedules, the ability to work independently in a team environment, strong adherence to quality control and quality assurance procedures and compliance with the laboratory regulations.

 

This laboratory opportunity will be for Tuesday-Saturday, 5-6am shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform processing of patient samples in accordance with the clinical laboratory’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Daily maintenance and monitoring of all laboratory equipment; including next generation sequencing instruments, liquid handling robotics, and cryogenic storage equipment.
  • Maintain and follow scheduled preventative maintenance, calibrations, and coordinates repair of laboratory equipment with the appropriate internal and external service personnel.
  • Conduct duties within a housekeeping system to ensure a contaminant-free and safe laboratory environment.
  • Operate liquid handling robots and sequencing instruments.
  • Store electronic data and other records to ensure integrity and long-term access.
  • Complete and maintain all required training upon hire and continuously throughout duration of employment.
  • Assist with ordering and inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Assist with regulatory assignments and special projects.
  • Function as a point of contact for the temperature alarm systems and responds to ensure integrity of cold storage systems housing biospecimens and reagents as needed.
  • Use appropriate laboratory materials and techniques to avoid contaminating laboratory environment and experiments.

  • Ability to work flexible shifts and/or weekends as may be required based on project needs and deadlines.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds for approximately 10% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Considerable amount of time using various types of laboratory equipment including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, pipettes.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Some time spent using near vision to view samples at close range.
  • Use of various chemicals may be used to perform duties.
  • Use of computer and some time may be spent concentrating, reading, or analyzing data, or applying scientific rules.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological sciences, clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
  • 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a scientific or medical technology.
  • MB (ASCP) or MT (ASCP) certification.
  • Experience and working knowledge of molecular laboratory techniques; such as PCR, library construction for NGS, sequencing, and other related molecular biology techniques.
