JOB SUMMARY

The Ophthalmic Technician 2 is responsible for performing a variety of highly skilled duties associated with the eye. This position assists the physician while serving as an integral member of the health care team in the treatment and care of patient's ocular health.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Initiates and performs documentation of the patient's chief complaint, history of present illness, medical history and review of systems and pertinent ocular findings, accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines.

Performs testing to include visual acuity measurement, lensometry, testing pupil function, ocular motility, tonometry, confrontation visual field testing and other patient services as requested by the ophthalmologist.

Performs refractometry; manual manifest refraction to draft preliminary glasses prescription.

Performs various specialty testing ordered by physician, such as pachymetry, Brightness Acuity Test (BAT), Potential Acuity Meter (PAM), color vision testing, and other tests as directed.

Assists with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections and laser treatments, in an exam room or treatment room, including prepping patients for sterile procedures.

Educates patient regarding the administration of medications, and pre and post operative instructions, as directed by physician.

Handles specimens, biopsies and culture materials safely.

Administers topical ophthalmic and oral medications at the direction of a physician.

Opens and closes exam lanes ensuring that equipment is cleaned and disinfected, battery-powered instruments are seated properly in recharge wells, and lamps and projectors are switched off and under covers.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

General understanding of Ophthalmic Care modalities, therapies, terminology, medications and equipment.

Outstanding interpersonal skills as well as a neat professional appearance.

Must be able to communicate effectively with coworkers, family of patients, doctors, and patients.

Requires flexibility to handle multiple ongoing tasks.

Must maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA guidelines.

Basic computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.

- Shift/Schedule -  Full Time, Mon
day-Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent

- EXPERIENCE - 1 Year of Experience

- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
       Cert Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Cert Ophtha Med Technologist (COMT), Cert Ophthalmic Tech (COT), Cert Retinal Angiographer (RA): Must have one of the following:
-- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
-- Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT)
-- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
-- Certified Retinal Angiographer (RA).
