Work Hours/Shift: PRN (Mostly Night Shift) 2-3 nights per week You Will Be Responsible For: - Demonstrate competency in histology laboratory procedures within the scope of practice. Provide all aspects of diagnostic histology procedures based on established standards. Perform testing in a timely manner and ensure department staff adhere to established turnaround time goals.
- Adheres to hospital and department policies and procedures. Completes assigned policy and procedure review assignments in a timely manner. Maintains current knowledge of CAP, State of Florida, and Federal regulatory requirements for the clinical laboratory. Complies with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Participates in proficiency testing program as assigned. Ensures that proficiency testing deadlines are met and samples are analyzed in the same manner as patient samples.
- Adheres to policies and procedures for all histology sample receipt and processing. Accession Surgical and Cytology specimens accurately and efficiently, ensuring specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received. Performs all assigned preventative maintenance including appropriate documentation. Preparation, specimen requirements and documentation of send outs and returned materials.
- Performs routine practices of histology (embedding, sectioning, staining, labeling) accurately and effectively. Performs special stains, maintains solutions and documents quality control. Maintains control tissue, test for positively and documents reactivity. Skillfully sections frozen specimens. Performs IHC, documents quality control, maintains instrumentation and supplies
- Maintains a clean and stocked workstation, following infection control guidelines. Ensures department supply levels are maintained in a manner to reduce waste and avoid expenses for âœrushâ orders.
- Maintains competencies current for all assigned procedures. Completes assigned competency assessments in a timely manner.
- Provides orientation and training to new employees and as needed, under the direction of the histology supervisor. Appropriately documents orientation and training of new employees and students.
- Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific jobâ‘related hazards.
- Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
- Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

Qualifications
What You Will Need: - One year of experience in a histology laboratory setting required AND completion of an accredited histology training program. OR
- Five Years of experience in a histology laboratory setting AND a minimum of 48 continuing education hours
- State of Florida- Histology Technologist
Job Summary: The Histology Technologist processes and prepares tissue and fluid specimens for interpretation by a Pathologist in accordance with the Division of Clinical Laboratory Standards and pursuant to Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Chapter 64B3-13.003. Perform competency-validated procedures ordered by appropriate Medical Staff and Physician. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Histology lab in the absence of a Supervisor or Senior Technologist.
