Work Hours/Shift:

PRN/Days


You will be responsible for:

  • Performs accurate transcription of recorded medical dictation into designated report format, as needed to support Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants and selected individual laboratory departments
  • Performs assigned activities related to the department including inventory control, general equipment and space maintenance, receptionist/clerical tasks which may include general word processing (typing), filing, distribution of interoffice memos, mail, scanning, and faxing
  • Supports cross departmental partnerships and communication amongst Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants, hospital staff and clients taking immediate steps to correct, follow through and report any mistakes or errors to department manager 
  • Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines, referring issues as needed to the department manager or Senior Manager of Laboratory Operations
  • Participates in and has knowledge of Performance Improvement activities, including evaluation of any new procedures and equipment, data collection, and/or creation of various reports
  • Attends and participates in scheduled department and committee meetings as assigned
  • Adheres strictly to Compliance Plan and the rules and regulation of applicable regulatory authorities; protects confidentiality of patient information and results at all times
  • Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene Plan and Infection Control policies. Employees job duties include transport of hazardous waste from point of generation to designated secure storage area. Employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
What You Will Need:
  • Completion of medical transcription program with certificate eligibility or experience in medical dictation transcription 
  • Medical Terminology training
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Experience with Clinical and Anatomical Laboratory Processes Preferred
  • Registered or Certified medical transcriptionist accredited through the Association for Health Documentation Integrity (AHDI) Preferred
  • Displays knowledge of AHDI medical transcription guidelines and practices as well as all applicable regulatory standards, rules and guidelines such as DNV, OSHA, AABB, AOA CAP, CLIA, State, and related agencies
  • Responsible for proper function and minor troubleshooting of computer software and hardware used for transcription
  • Technical skills and aptitudes related to timely and accurate transcription and delivery of pathology reports
  • Excellent listening skills to accurately translate a variety of dialects in order to document detailed, complicated patient care
  • Ability to read text ad numbers and effectively communicate verbally and in written form in English with patients, staff and customers of varied background in a respectful, effective and professional manner utilizing excellent grammar, punctuation and style skills
Job Summary:
The Pathology Transcriptionist performs transcription activities in support of the pathologists, pathologists' assistant, and cytology department; as well as including some clerical and/or related secretarial duties. The position requires exercise of judgement under supervision. Work involves theoretical and/or practical knowledge in various medical and laboratory operations and support functions, as well as general office support activities. Adheres to the Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
