The Program Director is responsible for the administration, organization, budget, supervision, and accreditation of the Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program. The Director is responsible for the program curriculum and instruction; supervises and teaches in the curriculum; maintains compliance with all applicable accreditation standards for the program; serves as a liaison with the MLT community; apprises the Associate Dean of departmental activities; advises students; seeks continuous improvement of the program’s curriculum, instruction, and resources; participates fully in the institutional planning process; and develops and manages the program’s annual budget.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Knowledge of NAACLS accreditation standards for MLT programs
Provide leadership for continued compliance of the program with the NAACLS accreditation standards at the associate degree level by maintaining all applicable records, reports, and documentation
Supervise faculty and staff in the program to promote the highest standards of instruction
Demonstrate knowledge related to curriculum development and revision
Demonstrate effective budget and program management of the program
Provide leadership in the planning process of the College with primary responsibility for planning and institutional effectiveness for the program
Coordinate with the Associate Dean regarding curriculum and instruction in the program to ensure that all methodologies and content are current with best practices in the field
Provide instruction for program courses in the day, evening, or online on any Shelton State campus or instructional site
Inform and advise students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, academic progress, and certification requirements for advancement in the field
Maintain, compile, administer, and grade assignments, projects, and examinations
Monitor student progress in the program; provide advice and counsel to assure student success
Provide for submission of all necessary attendance, scholastic, and personnel records according to announced deadlines
Participate in an ongoing formal program of professional development to enhance professional, instructional, and academic capabilities/skills
Demonstrate effective planning, organization, and evaluation skills
Provide for systematic evaluation of the program
Serve as liaison, promote, and maintain satisfactory relationships with other divisions in the college, health agencies, the community, and state, regional, and national agencies
Coordinate with the College Advising Center regarding student recruitment and selection
Preside over program advisory, faculty and staff meetings and maintain minutes of the meetings
Participate in faculty discussion of curriculum, teaching-learning techniques, and teaching materials
Comply with policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College
Serve on College committees
Participate in professional development, compliance, performance excellence, and other training activities as required
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
Current ASCP-BOC generalist as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist
Three (3) years of clinical laboratory work experience
Three (3) years of teaching experience
Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures
Effective written and oral communication skills

Additional Salary Information: Salary is based upon the Alabama Community College System and Shelton State Community College Salary Schedule C2 to be determined by the applicant’s education and years of applicable experience. Applicant acknowledges that if selected for the position that applicant’s placement on the applicable salary schedule will be dependent upon the verified information provided by the applicant in accordance with the applicable work experience verification requirements stated herein.
For all positions on all Salary Schedules, the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other work experience outside of public education in Alabama that, in the sole judgment of the College, directly relates to the requirements of the position.
